This is a grand time of the year. Visiting with friends and family. Enjoying the change in the weather. Dreaming of the things to come and adventures of the upcoming year. Making lists and checking them twice and continue to write…right? Ooops!

Those of us who claim to be writers, must continue to write. There is no such thing as making excuses and
getting away without writing. It may be challenging to fit some time to write, but write we must. After all, you don’t want to lose the momentum you gathered in the past few weeks or months. You’re on a roll, keep it going. Make it a game, see how much you can write before you’re asked to go out to a gathering. Or while the turkey is in the oven. Set up the timer for the turkey and set up the timer for some writing.
At least have a notebook in your pocket and when you get an idea jot it down. You can also use your smart phone…you know; you never leave any room without it. So, utilize it to record thoughts that come in about a story, or dialogue for one of your characters. Writing doesn’t mean you have to be glued to the keyboard. Even putting your feet up on the recliner while sipping some eggnog, can be writing time as long as your thoughts are focused on a writing project. Allow yourself precious time to be creative even while daydreaming.
Been a writer is a full time job, even when you only do it part time and sometimes pays like a hobby. It is something which thrives in your soul. You can’t put it down, it’s a gift, an art. I would go as far as to say is part of your DNA. So don’t abandon your creative Muse and leave your writing behind with the excuse that is the Holidays!!!
Hey, why not get into be Festive Mood of the Season and write something Seasonal? Write your very own Christmas Story or a Yule Time Poem. Writing is a wonderful habit to get into. A habit which exercises the mind as well as the Spirit.
